Lake Sonoma 50 – The first mile
The annual Lake Sonoma 50 miles race is held on the rugged trails at Lake Sonoma. The course is 86% single track and 9% dirt roads, with the first 2.4 miles on a paved country road. This year the event reached its eight edition with a field of killer elites at the starting line. Lake Sonoma is part of the Montrail Ultra Cup Series. The top two men and women finishers will each earn a spot at the 2015 Western States 100. This year’s top two consisted of Alex Varner and Ryan Bak in the men’s group. Stephanie How and Cassie Scallon formed the first two finishing women. Filmer Billy Yang was present to capture the race. Kyle Dietz is a former professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, who felt there was nothing more to gain in fighting and turned his head to ultra running. The film follows Dietz as he trains in and around his home town in Iowa for the RUT 50k at Big Sky in Montana.
